Stain

Mallard Cabinetry offers a beautiful palette of hand-rubbed, stained finishes that enhance the natural character and grain of the wood.  We meticulously sand the surface and profiles of the door so that the stain is absorbed evenly.  The stain is then sprayed over the surface and wiped by hand so that it develops a beautiful, transparent color that fully showcases the grain and character of the wood.  Our durable, catalyzed conversion clear sealer and topcoat protect the stain and create a soft luster with a smooth feel.

Paint

Paint finishes have gained popularity in recent years. Some homeowners select paint for their entire kitchen, while others choose it as an accent color for an island.  Various shades of white and neutral colors are popular for full kitchens, while intense colors tend to be selected for accent pieces.

***Custom colors are available to match any preference.

*****Please note that wood  naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity.  As wood moves microscopically at joints, this movement will be more apparent with painted finishes than stained finishes and will look like a small fracture or seam at the joint.  This is a natural characteristic of painted finishes on wood.

GGlaze
Glaze is a semi-transparent color that is applied over the stain for added depth and dimension.  Along profiles and corners, the glaze highlights and accentuates the carved details of the door.  Glaze is an artistic, hand-applied finish technique that will exhibit subtle and unique variations.  Mallard Cabinetry Offers an “Accent” glaze that is applied only along profiles and edges. The images demonstrate stains along with a complimentary color of glaze on various types of wood.

"Weathered"

Our “Weathered” collection of finishes looks as if it has been exposed to years of sun, wind and rain. Like an old drift fence, tumbled driftwood or seasoned barn planks, each of our Weathered finishes portrays wood that has been exposed to the elements.

Our special finishing process raises the grain to expose swirls and patterns with a uniquely textured surface. The surface is then lightly distressed by hand to emulate age and wear. After staining, glaze is applied to highlight the raised grain and then lightly buffed on raised edges and around knots to feature the stain. Because each cut of wood is unique, every Weathered finish is a one-of-a-kind rendition that looks like it has been aged and worn by time itself.

"Heirloom"
Using only methods only by hand, we convert an ordinary door or drawer front to resemble a worn, vintage look. This style of finish typically achieves a more desirable result with a stain accompanied by glaze.
Stain and Glaze that features:  Heavy Distressing, Knife Cuts, Rasping and Hewing, Bird Pecks, Chisel Marks,  Softened Corners, and Worm Holes.

" Heritage "

Over time, a well-loved painted furniture piece will show distinctive signs of wear and use. Each chip and dent tells the story of its history through layers of paint. With its beautifully aged surface and chipped edges, this collection is designed to resemble a cherished family heirloom.

Our finish artisans hand-detail the surface to create the look of time worn distressing. Finishes are layered to emulate the look of furniture that has been refinished over the years. A layer of stain is covered with a layer of paint with special effects to age the surface. Lastly, the paint is chipped away along corners and edges.
